The March of Remembrance and Hope prides itself on bringing together students of many different cultures to promote understanding.  Ola is a Muslim contemplating the history of Auschwitz-Birkenau in the women's barrack at Birkenau.  Sometimes I think the cultural shock was stronger for me, coming from a very homogeneous environment, than Ola and others coming from metropolitan communities.

One testimony from a survivor we heard about said that the best place to work in Auschwitz was between the barbwire because they were safe from being beaten all day. This was despite the fact that if they touched the sides they would be electrocuted.
